Harvest Finally Comes After Six Years of Planting

Harvest Finally Comes After Six Years of Planting

This is an adapted version of an email we sent out on 11/7/2024.

With Thanksgiving just a few weeks away, I wanted to look back and reflect on some of the things for which we are grateful, and to share our story of what God has done over the last six years.

You see, over the last month or so our business has skyrocketed. If you have been following us for a while now, you may know that business has been pretty slow for us until recently.

Here's what happened.

I (Paul Brown) started Wasson Watch Co. in 2018 with a dream to produce the exact watch I was looking for, and a company that would operate with integrity and for God's glory. I spent three years in product development to get that first watch just right.

It wasn't easy. I am not a watchmaker, but an entrepreneur, and was working with manufacturers around the world. There were language barriers, cultural barriers, time zone differences, and plenty of little hiccups along the way that made this process challenging (and slow).

But after three years I had a working prototype in hand, and was ready to move into the next phase of his business: going to market.

An early image of our completed prototype.

Very quickly I realized that while I had a knack for product development, going to market was a whole different animal. I knew I needed help. I met with a man from my church named Travis Rudolph, who had decades in marketing experience, and owned a marketing agency called Trek Strategy. After a few meetings I realized that Travis' advice was good, but that I wouldn't be able to execute it on my own. I also realized that good talent requires good money, and I wasn't going to be able to hire Travis for what he deserved.

So we made a deal, and I brought Travis on as a co-owner of Wasson Watch Co.

The next three years were difficult. We had a good plan, but breaking into any industry with a startup is difficult. Breaking into the Swiss, high-end watch segment on a shoestring budget is almost impossible. But we set set our faces like flint, and we got to work. By August 2022 we had our first production order completed and in hand, and we were selling directly to customers through our website.

Our sales produced enough to cover our overheard, and every once in a while we had a little spike that got our hopes up, but from the Summer of 2022 until September 2024 things were slow. Both of us were beginning to wonder if we were ever going to make this business profitable.

Before I tell you what happened next, let met just tell you, throughout this time I have been praying that God would help this business to be successful. I have been praying for his guidance and wisdom. I have been praying that God would use our business to honor and glorify him.

God answers prayers.

Right around the beginning of October I posted something on X that went semi-viral and got over 400,000 views. It boosted our follower count on the platform to over 5,000 and began to get us some extra sales. Immediately, interest in Wasson Watch Co. increased, and we began getting more messages from people. We were featured on a podcast and at least one article was written about us. People were interested in a watch company that boldly speaks the truth about Jesus Christ, the Bible, the church, and even controversial issues like abortion.

Then pastor and theologian Matthew Everhard posted a video about us on YouTube. All of these things were driving sales up, and we went from a couple sales per month to a couple sales per day.

Just when it felt like things might start to die down some accounts on X with massive followings on posted about us (Mostly Peaceful Memes and Jesse Kelly). Jesse Kelly highlighted a post in which an individual on Instagram had said, "Unfollow. I'm here to look at cool pictures of watches not a religion that is falsely used to hurt the most vulnerable." I had responded with, "The most vulnerable are murdered in the womb in our nation at a rate of about one million per year." I took a screenshot of the interaction, and posted it, and that's what Jesse Kelly posted. We jumped up to over 19,000 followers, and the sales kept rolling in.

Then last weekend was huge. We went to the Fight, Laugh, Feast conference in Ft. Worth hosted by Cross Politic, and got 16 sales in person in one weekend. We also got some really kind shoutouts from the stage from guys like Isaac Botkin (of T-Rex Arms), and Oklahoma State Senator Dusty Deevers. That same weekend our watch was featured on an episode of The Shawn Ryan Show when Paul's friend, retired A-10 pilot Dale Stark, went on the show and presented Shawn with a Wasson Automatic Field Watch as a gift.

All of this has happened since October 1st, and it has been a whirlwind. Our company is rapidly moving to the point where we will be able to expand our product line and grow in other important, strategic ways.

Something I have noticed in life is that when God answers our prayers, he often does it through his people. That's what I have seen happening all around me. God's people have helped us in innumerable ways. We are incredibly grateful to God for what he has done for us through his people.

We are also incredibly grateful to all the individuals mentioned above and many more who have helped us in a whole variety of ways. We wouldn't be here without God's help, and we wouldn't be here without the help of God's people.

This increase in attention and sales has a lot of implications for us as a business. Prior to October we were on pace to sell through our existing inventory in about 8 years (not good). Now we may sell out by the end of the year. We are already working on our next product run, and are working on a collaboration on a watch with another company as well. Other opportunities continue to present themselves, and we are trying to wisely navigate all our options so as to steward what God has given us.

We will continue to be bold in the truth, and to trust God for our success.

We have much for which to be thankful. We are, of course, elated about the growth God has given our company as of late, but more than that we are thankful for the work Jesus Christ did on the cross. We are thankful that God made us, and saved us. We are thankful for our families. And we are thankful for each and every one of you.

Soli Deo Gloria
